Local law enforcement agencies are ramping up DUI enforcement Sunday in an effort to keep drivers safe.
Extra patrol officers will hit the streets of Salem and Keizer looking for impaired drivers before, during and after the Super Bowl.
"The goal is to make our roadways safer for everyone traveling," Keizer police said in a news release.
In 2009, state troopers arrested 21 drivers suspected of DUI after noon on Super Bowl Sunday.
State police offer these tips to party-goers:
-Pick a designated driver and hand over the car keys.
-Avoid drinking too much alcohol too fast and grab Super Bowl snacks.
-If there's no designated driver, ask a sober friend for a ride home, call a cab or just stay at the party and sleep it off.
-Watch out for other people trying to drive drunk.
-Buckle up. It's the best defense against DUI drivers.
