Two motorists were arrested on suspicion of DUI and 28 others were given field sobriety tests during a sobriety/drivers license safety checkpoint in Palm Desert.
Palm Desert Police ran the DUI checkpoint from 9 p.m. Saturday to 1:30 a.m. Sunday in the area of Monterey Avenue and Magnesia Falls Drive.
Of the 653 cars that passed through the DUI checkpoint, 595 cars were screened, police officials said. One vehicle was impounded, officials said. Two other drivers were arrested for driving unlicensed or on a suspended license, officials said.
The checkpoint operation was made possible through a grant awarded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
