wbir.com reported. The Clinton Police Department has announced that a man arrested and booked on suspicion of DUI, believed to be an escaped convicted murderer from Michigan, is not a murderer after all.
Norman Barclay was arrested late Wednesday night on DUI charges, at the Rocky Top on Charles Seivers Blvd.
Clinton Police Officer Randall Chisum pulled over Barclay at the Rocky Top on Charles Seivers Blvd. because the vehicle he was driving matched the description of an earlier DUI report.
As law enforcement officials looked into Barclay, it appeared he was wanted out of Michigan as an escaped murderer.
It turns out Barclay is wanted in Michigan, and Michigan does plan to extradite. However, Clinton police received information on Barclay's status that contradicts an earlier announcement that he was an escaped murderer.
Instead, Barclay had prior convictions of breaking and entering, larceny, prison escape, and receiving and concealing stolen property.
He was wanted in Michigan for absconding from parole from the Michigan Department of Corrections. Additionally, the vehicle he was driving was found to be stolen from Michigan.
Here in Tennessee, he now faces charges of driving under the influence, driving on a revoked license, theft over $10,000, violation of implied consent law, being a fugitive from justice, violation of open container law, and violation of financial responsibility law.
