placerherald.com reported. Placer County Sheriff's Deputy John Caliguire of Rocklin was arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence, according to authorities.
About 9 a.m. on Nov. 7, Rocklin Police dispatchers received a call reporting a driver "who was unable to maintain lanes" in the area of Sunset Boulevard and Topaz Avenue, according to the DUI arrest report. Once officers arrived, the driver was advised to stop near Coppervale Drive and Little Rock Road, where Caliguire got out of the silver pickup truck and "could barely stand," according to the report.
The reporting officer "immediately smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage."
Caliguire was arrested for driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level of 0.31 and 0.33 - nearly four times over the legal limit.
Jeff Ausnow, spokesman for the Placer County Sheriff's Department, said Caliguire has been a deputy sheriff for the department for eight years. The department is aware of Caliguire's DUI arrest and he remains on active duty during the department's pending internal investigation, Ausnow said.
"The Placer County Sheriff's Department takes DUI very seriously and a violation of this law would be unacceptable behavior for a member of our department," Ausnow said.
